Specialised Breeding
Captive breeding plays a vital role in the survival of endangered raptors. The African Raptor Centre maintains carefully managed breeding programmes focused on critically endangered and regionally extinct species, including vultures and large eagles.
Each breeding pair is matched for genetic diversity, and all offspring are raised under conditions that promote natural behaviours. Chicks destined for release undergo a soft-release process, ensuring they develop essential survival skills in a controlled environment.
Our breeding efforts support population recovery, scientific study, and public education — offering hope for the future of species that would otherwise disappear from South African skies.
